Why am I not seeing progress?
- 1
How is your diet?
Diet is one of the most important parts of seeing a change when starting a workout routine. Without having the proper nutrition, you will limit, or even inhibit, progress. Whether you need to adjust the number of calories you take in during a day, add more protein, or cut down on carbs, diet is an important key to losing weight or gaining muscle. - 2
Are you working out consistently?
Maybe you started out strong but lost “steam” along the way. Consistency is important to making progress. Whether your goal is weight loss, gaining strength, or toning your body, consistency is key. We are all very busy and sometimes we set unrealistic expectations for ourselves when starting out. Try setting a realistic number of times per week and minutes/hours per week in order to help yourself remain consistent with your workouts. - 3
Are you doing cardio AND strength training?
Social media and journalism have often put the idea in our heads that cardio is always the answer, no matter what your fitness goals are. This is NOT the case! It is important that you incorporate strength training into your fitness routine. As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass. With the loss of muscle, your metabolism slows even more and your overall vitality decreases. No matter what your age is or what your goals are, you must regularly participate in strength training! - 4
Are you working out properly?
Starting a fitness routine can be intimidating and, for some, confusing. What exercises should you be doing? Are you doing the exercises correctly? It can be hard to tell! That’s where the help of a personal trainer can make all the difference! Whether you feel more comfortable one on one or in semi-private, working with a personal trainer can be very beneficial in learning to properly workout. Doing the correct exercises and having proper form are important for preventing injury and making progress.

Now that you are aware of several reasons you may not be making progress like you had hoped to, you can exam what you have been doing and make the necessary changes to propel you forward closer to your goals! Whether you need to work on your nutrition, work on consistency, add in strength training, or maybe work with a personal trainer to make sure you are exercising properly, your goals are within reach! Sometimes all it takes is a simple: pause, assess, and restart.
